Carlos Canseco - Rotary International President 1984-85

It is really sad to know that our beloved Past President of Rotary International, Dr. Carlos Canseco, has passed away in the city of Monterrey, Mexico.

 We pray to God for his eternal rest, knowing of the great and unforgettable andimportant work Dr. Carlos Canseco did to benefit humanity creating Rotary’s PolioPlus program. 

 Rotary world has lost an extraordinary Rotarian.  An example as a human being willserve for others to continue working for our goals and projects worldwide.

PRIP Carlos Canseco, Rest in Peace.  We will never forget him.

NLAB scholars take Chrismas vacation at home

By allowing him to spend Christmas with his loved ones at home, the Rotary Club o f Hundred Islands have made a little difference in a life of a blind kid.  The travelling expenses provided by the RCHi had made it possible.  This actually happened to NLAB scholars John Paul Valdez from Barangay Lucap, Alaminos City, Paul John  from Poblacion, Bolinao, Pangasinan and Joan from Bangan Oda, Agno, Pangasinan.

Caroling for a Cause

Singing Christmas Carols could be a source of funds for a club.  This the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands did and was able to raise the amount of P15,900 so far.  Some other referred persons to sing Christmas carols will just hand in their gifts and the total amount earned will later be reported.

Basic Reflexology Training Seminar held

The Rotary Club of Hundred Islands sponsored the holding of free Basic Reflexology Training Seminar last December 8 – 12, 2008 held at the 3/F of Braganza Building, Quezon Avenue, Poblacion, Alaminos City.  The reflexology training was conducted in cooperation with the Madrigal-Abad Santos Foundation.  The candidates who were able to complete the course will be granted by the TESDA a National Competency II Certificate.

My Dear ROTIans,

As we enter the wonderful holiday season, we see a multitude of people that are all shopping for family and loved ones. It matters not what we call this time of year; it goes by many names around the globe. Americans and most Filipinos refer to this time of the year as Christmas. What matters is that this is a special time in the lives of everyone. It is a time to care and to share. We show we care by sharing our gifts with those who have little.

January marks the beginning of the second half of the Rotary year. It's a time to look back on what we've accomplished so far, to assess our progress, and to renew our determination to achieve our goals in the months remaining. It's a time to discuss and evaluate the goals of our clubs as well as the goals we've set for ourselves as Rotarians.

Happy New Year . . . But When?

What is a year? A simple question, but with no simple answer. Basically, a year is a time span measured by the orbit of the earth around the sun. But beginning when? And ending when? And how sub-divided?

Years are defined by calendars, all sorts of calendars. Calendars are defined by the sun, the moon, the seasons, the equinox, or by some historical event or person. There are solar calendars, lunar calendars, and lunisolar calendars; Roman, Gregorian and Julian calendars; Christian, Hebrew, Hindu, Islamic and Zoroastrian calendars.

Christmas Party and Elections held

Last December 8, 2008, the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands held its traditional Christmas Party and Elections at 3/F Ro-An Building, Vereciano Street, Poblacion, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.  Assistant Director for Public Relations Domingo “Doming” A. Doctor, Jr. was unanimously elected President Nominee to serve on Rotary Year 2011-2012.

Leticia Parra - ROTI Chair 2009-2011

lparra.jpgLeticia Parra was born in Mexico City, the center of the ancient Aztec Empire. At 13 years old I worked as a grocery store clerk, taught children, taught French, and served as a guide and interpreter during the ‘68 Olympic Games in Mexico at 15.  also worked at Bristol Myers Co. (drugs division), CANACINTRA (Mexican Chamber of ndustry), Nacional Financiera (National Bank) and Dokter Labs (medicine products) which is a family enterprise.

With the holidays fast approaching we should also celebrate December as Family Month as designated by Rotary International. What can be a more appropriate celebration than to honor families in December, a time when families come together to celebrate the Holidays, when family fellowship is the primary goal!
