As we prepare to observe Rotary Foundation Month in November, I’d like to remind all Rotarians of the Foundation’s goals for 2008-2009.
Our first goal is to keep our promise to eradicate polio. We have a
special opportunity now to achieve a polio-free world by raising funds
for Rotary’s US$100 Million Challenge. To meet this challenge, every
club is being asked to hold events in the community that will bring in
$1,000 a year for the next three years. Such events will have the
added benefit of making others more aware of your club’s work and of
Rotary’s critical role in polio eradication.
Second, I am asking Rotarians to support the Annual Programs Fund and
the Permanent Fund to ensure that our Foundation will continue to
thrive well in the future. I suggest that you review your club’s fund
development goal for 2008-2009 and determine how you can achieve or
surpass it.
Our third goal is to participate in Your Foundation/Our Foundation, a
“lend a hand” program for sharing funds from club and district
foundations to permanently establish the Rotary World Peace Fellowships
program and support global polio eradication.
Fourth, let’s work to enhance Rotary’s public image by promoting our
good work throughout our communities and in the media. When people
know even a fraction of what Rotary does, they want to join with us as
members, contributors or partners.
Finally, I am asking all Rotarians to support The Rotary Foundation
Future Vision Plan. You can read about this exciting new initiative to
make our Foundation more effective at www.rotary.org/futurevision. I
encourage you to learn more about it, including how your district can
apply to participate in the pilot that will begin in July 2010.
These five goals are designed to strengthen and promote our Foundation,
but they cannot be achieved without your support. Rotary Foundation
Month is an ideal time to consider how your club and district can help
our Foundation an enduring force for good in the world.
