Around 9:00 in the evening of May 8, 2009 (Friday), Club Director Danny Gapasin, Jr. received a text message from Real Good President Henry Onia of the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands, to wit:
"Gud pm. Alaminos City is badly damaged when d eye of Typhoon Emong passed thru it. RC Hundred Islands makes an appeal 4 fudstuf, used clothes, G.I. sheets & other relief goods. Thanx n advance."
The said message was immediately forwarded to our very own Real Good
President Ed Nuevo. Ou club president said that the subject be
discussed by club members in attendance on the next day (May 9, 2009)
at the District Assembly (DISTAS) 2009 at the AIM Conference Center,
Makati City. Hence, during the DISTAS, the subject was discussed by
Real Good Pres. Ed Nuevo, Smiling Visionary Pres. Ador Tolentino, PP
Paul Magno, PP Doris Yu, Rtn. Danny Gapasin, Rtn. Lance Cervantes, Rtn.
Ben Muzo and Rtn. Manny Manahan. It was agreed during said discussion
that it would be better to collect or solicit cash since it can be
easily sent to RC Hundred Islands by money transfer. It was likewise
agreed to ask the support of the DISTAS Organizing Committee thru
Smiling Visionary Governor Sid Garcia to solicit from among the
attendees in the DISTAS to which the Governor agreed. It so happened
also that one of the Guest Speaker during the DISTAS was former
Pangasinan Governor Oscar Orbos who talked about the RC Hundred Islands.
Thus, upon announcement on the floor of the matter of solicitation by
our club for RC Hundred Islands for the benefit of the victims of
Typhoon Emong, our club officers, led by Real Good Pres. Ed Nuevo and
Smiling Visionary Pres. Ador Tolentino, went from table to table to ask
for cash donations. In less than 30 minutes, the club was able to
collect a total amount of SEVENTEEN THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED PESOS
(Php17,700.00) in cash. The said amount is exclusive of the share of
our club. Thanks to those kind-hearted fellow Rotarians who shared
their resources for the unfortunate victims of Typhoon Emong in
Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
For and in behalf of the victims of Cyclone Emong, the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands extends heartfelt gratitude.
