Last August 26, 2009, the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands held its 8th Induction and Turn-Over Ceremonies at the Maxine by the Sea Lodge and Restaurant, Lucap, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.
The affair started with a holy mass at 6:30 a.m. at the pastoral center of the St. Joseph Cathedral Parish, attended by the club officers and members. Right after the mass, a motorcade followed. The participants of the motorcade assembled at the parking lot of the church. Adorned with balloons and streamers, the participating vehicles proceeded to Barangay Palamis and Barangay San Vicente until Genuino Ice Plant at sitio Daray-asen. From there the vehicles went straight to the Lucap Wharf then ended at Barangay Sadsaran for a breakfast at the Mellow Chow Restaurant.
At 2:00 p.m., the members of the board of directors assembled at Mellow
Chow Restaurant for the Governor's Visit. President Antero "Roy" R.
Magno had his one-on-one dialogue with District Governor Rolando "Oyan"
Villanueva with Assistant Governor Rolly Ferrer, RC Lingayen, in
attendance; while Secretary Crelita "Cre" Doctor had hers with District
Secretary Linda Winter, RC Baguio. DG Oyan was accompanied by District
Secretary Eric Rodriguez, RC Metro Baguio and Governor's Aide Dominador "Jun" Rojas, RC Baguio Sunrise.
Later at Maxine by the Sea Lodge and Restaurant, the Induction
ceremonies began with a dinner prepared by Vice-President Laura "Lau"
Rosete as the official caterer. With the bang of the gavel on the bell
by Outgoing President Henry R. Onia, the program started. PP William
"Iam" G. Chan served as the Night Chairman. He also acknowledged the
personalities at the Presidential Table namely: Assistant Governor
Rolly Ferrer, City Administrator Wilmer Panabang, RC Bauang, Incoming
President Roy, District Governor Oyan and Outgoing President Henry.
Also acknowledged the presence of delegations coming from RC Dasmarinas
Cavite, District 3810 and those of the district composed of almost
twenty (20)clubs.
City Administrator Panabang represented City Mayor Hernani "Nani"
Braganza for the welcome address. He outlined the projects that the
city would be implementing i.e., the international airport, the
tri-city ferry, the city hospital, the city convention center and
various university and college extensions in the city.
There were seventeen (17) new members who were charged by District
Governor Nominee Digna Ragasa, RC Vigan, and inducted by DG Oyan. The
new set of officers were charged by Past District Governor Nelson
Yuchongtian and inducted by DG Oyan.
President Henry delivered his Valedictory Address while a PowerPoint
presentation of the projects implemented during his term was shown.
Thereafter, he turned over the gavel and exchanged pins with Incoming
President Roy, gave Awards to PP Oscar "Oca" Tolentino, PP Ildefonso
"Doods" M. Manzano, Jr., President Roy, Director Crelita "Cre" Doctor,
Rotarians Marcelina "Celing" Cabrito and Jeanne O. Capitle-Rendon and
citations as Paul Harris Sustaining Members to PP Augusto "Gus" T.
Ferrer, Pres Roy, Director Salvador "Zaldy" Palecpec, Director Elenita
"Nitz" Paragas, Rtn. Myrna C. Aquino, Rtn. Mylene "Mylz" O. Manalastas,
Rtn. Irineo "Irin" B. Onia, and Rtn. Victorino "Victor" Domingo.
Inadvertently forgotten was the Paul Harris Sustaining Member citation
for Rtn. Sonny Pua which will be given on a meeting immediately after
the Induction. On his part, President Roy awarded Outgoing President
Henry with an Outstanding Leadership Plaque in recognition of his able
leadership for the Make Dreams Real year.
President Roy delivered his Inaugural Address stating his fervent hope
for the utmost cooperation of the members of the club for the ensuing
Rotary Year.
DG Oyan was introduced by Immediate Past Vice-President Ma. Concepcion
"Beng" T. Briones outlining his qualifications and achievements. Filled
with fire and passion, with this year's theme, "The Future of Rotary is
in Your Hands" as a subject, the speech of DG Oyan inspired the
audience.
It is nice to note that while the speakers were at the rostrum,
everyone was all ears. President Roy adjourned the program and the
Sisterhood Agreement with the Rotary Club of Baguio South was finally
signed. This agreement has been in the offing since President Doods.
The biggest celebration of the club is now over and the club members
have buckled up to work to attain the forecast presented during the
Governor's Visit.
