Rotary gives Free Legal Advice over DZWM 864 kHz PDF Print E-mail

High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; (Second Object of Rotary)

dzwm The Alaminos Community Broadcasting Corporation (ACBC) the owner of the DZWM 864 kHz radio could not find a lawyer who would anchor their legal concerns advocacy radio program.  The Rotary Club of Hundred Islands has a free legal advice project but has no efficient vehicle to prosecute it.  The radio program named “Karapatan Mo Karapatan Ko” runs daily from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm from Monday to Saturday.  Circumstances brought the parties together to make their respective projects possible.

The Hundred Islands Rotary provided the lawyer needed by the ACBC and the ACBC provided the airtime to promote its free legal advice project.  Correspondingly, there is an exchange of cost between the parties, the Hundred Islands Rotary does not pay for airtime to ACBC and the latter does not pay professional fees to former.  As an additional compensation to Hundred Islands Rotary, it could broadcast the planning and execution of all its projects every Thursday of the week.

Last July 30, 2008, Thursday, the Hundred Islands Rotary made its first Rotary Hour program to discuss plans and projects of President Henry R. Onia for Rotary Year 2008-2009.  Special highlights were focused on the project of the Hundred Islands Rotary for the benefit of the full scholars of the Northern Luzon Association for the Blind, Inc., who are blind children of elementary school age.  The broadcast for this day was participated by the Radio Announcer Lydia Colobong-Orilla and Assistant Governor William “Iam” G. Chan.

On July 31, 2008, the following legal questions were tackled:

  • on possible damages to be incurred by a farmer who sprayed pesticide on his palay which caused the death of chicken of his neighbors,
  • the possible damages to incurred by the owner of transmitter tower in case trespassers will get electrocuted,
  • whether or not the tradition giving all the inheritance to the first child is also in accordance with law, and
  • how will the heirs sell a property which title or documents of ownership are still in the name of their deceased parents.
